Aho.
The Bunker Walk through the forests in Hurtgenwald…. they are all connected to each other in some way. At one point halfway through the walk I stood with a piece of blessing in front of a shooter’s window… A small cage with bullet holes in the walls… a sad little dungeon with small crawl spaces and narrow corridors… out of nowhere a song of comfort appeared,… it had to be whispered. The melody echoed through the bunker corridors and resonated further through the entire concrete structure. It affected me enormously. A great sadness and sigh of relief as if the bunker and its inhabitants found space to breathe again. It seemed as if thousands in all the bunkers, inside and outside, stopped their struggle and looked up in amazement at this song. As if Ansuz the breath of the gods and Odin spoke to them softly and cordially… ‘it’s over boys, let go and rest now’ …. It felt as if the song drifted further into all the bunkers and tears of emotion sprang into my eyes. The melody stayed with me the entire journey. Even today I whistle it softly and will soon make another recording of it. Curious whether the melody will grow during the recording… or whether it sounds most powerful in its simple simplicity and loneliness. like the piece of wood that was donated at this bunker… ‘listen’ …. ‘peace in everyone here and everyone on the way to the source’. Aho.
